Community Safety
Community safety is a top priority. Although we have a current chief of police, my office has worked to aid in public safety…
- 2024 – Flock Safety cameras and gun shot detection devices for community safety, fleet of new vehicles through Enterprise lease agreement, evidence locker setup to replace old temporary lockers, directing the re-opening of closed cases leading to over fifty criminal prosecutions
- 2023 – Remodel and update public safety dispatch center within the Tarrant Public Safety building
- 2022 – EForce Software for updated CAD, RMS, Jail, and Mobile software for Tarrant Police Department, new mobile tablet systems for law enforcement efficiency, large grants for additional
- 2021 – 42 cameras installed throughout the city and more being obtained and body cameras obtained

Community Grants
Under Mayor Newton’s administration, the city has received numerous grants to cover needed resources. A few of those are listed below…
- 2024 – 2025 – Loxil Tuck Storm Shelter
- 2023 – $2,000 grant from Senator Coleman-Madison for Tarrant Public Library, $90,000 from Community Development Block for demolitions, $150,000 for police training initiatives from the federal government
- 2022 – $10,000 from TVA for sports complex, $42,000 from Jefferson County for CPR devices, $15,000 from Community Service fund for body cameras
